The ACT Government is renewing its shared e-scooter/e-bike program to ensure Canberrans continue to benefit from high quality, equitable, sustainable and flexible transport options that support the Territory's mode-shift goals.
Following a competitive application process, Lime has been selected as the preferred provider of shared e-scooter/e-bike services in the ACT. Under the Public Unleased Land Act 2013, Lime will be issued a three year permit to operate on Territory land.
As part of its introduction to the ACT, Lime will expand the range of shared devices available to the community. In addition to e-scooters, Lime will roll out e-bikes, offering more versatile options to suit different needs and trip types. These additions will give Canberrans more choice in how they travel, providing options that support long and short trips on their own or in connection with public transport.
Shared e-scooters has become a valued, flexible and affordable transport choice for many Canberrans. E-scooters and e-bikes play an important role in addressing transport equity, reducing car dependence and encouraging more active lifestyles.
"E-scooters have become an important part of Canberra's transport mix, providing people with more convenient, sustainable and flexible ways to move around the city. This next phase will deliver greater choice for the community with an additional device type, making active travel more accessible," said Kirra Cox, Executive Branch Manager, Strategic Policy and Legislation.
"We're thrilled to bring Lime to Canberra and work closely with the community to deliver a safe, reliable and affordable transport option in the nation's capital. Safety underpins everything we do, from our on-ground operations to the in-house design of our vehicles. We're proud to become part of Canberra's transport mix and to offer residents and visitors another easy way to get around the city," said William Peters, Head of Asia-Pacific, Lime.
Lime will begin operating in the ACT from Thursday 16 April 2026. The ACT Government will work closely with the current operator, Neuron, as they transition out of market to ensure minimal impact on active travel users in the ACT.
The ACT Government would like to acknowledge the important contribution that Neuron has made in providing services to the ACT.
"Since launching Canberra's first shared e-scooter service in 2020, we have been proud to support residents and visitors with a safe, convenient and sustainable travel option, helping riders to make millions of trips across the city.
We would like to thank our riders, local businesses, community members and the ACT Government for their support, as well as our dedicated local Neuron team, who have worked tirelessly to operate the service to a high standard. We wish every success with its future e-scooter/e-bike programs and hope to have the opportunity to return to Canberra in the future," said Jayden Bryant, General Manager, Australian and New Zealand, Neuron Mobility.
