Lismore Community Flood Petition Presented To CSIRO

NSW Nationals

Federal Nationals Member for Page Kevin Hogan has presented his community petition to CSIRO during its consultation session in Lismore.

Mr Hogan said more than 2,000 people signed the petition, , calling for the government to model a scenario where a flood event would be 1-2 metres lower than it otherwise would be.

"This includes modelling a scenario that includes options to hold back, slow down or divert floodwater," Mr Hogan said.

"This is about keeping our community safe. We need to protect our homes, our businesses, and our families. Reducing flood risk also supports mental health, lowers insurance costs, and gives our region a real future."

CSIRO is currently holding community consultations across the region using a new hydrodynamic tool to assess future flood scenarios across the Richmond River catchment.

Mr Hogan encouraged residents to continue having their say.

"You can still sign the petition online, and you can also make a direct submission to CSIRO. The more voices we have, the stronger our case."
