- Three ambitious WA arts projects get a slice of $7.8 million Creative Futures Fund
- This builds on Cook Government investment in key arts organisations
- Funding WA's creative industries sector helping diversify the State's economy
Three Western Australian arts projects are among 14 around the nation to receive a funding boost through the Australian Government's Creative Futures Fund - Delivery Investment.
The projects, Perth Festival - Tales from the Inner City by Shaun Tan, Fremantle Biennale - Night Rise, and Community Arts Network - Unfinished Business will all receive $250,000 each through the Australian Government initiative.
Perth Festival received $9.5 million in State Government funding though Lotterywest. In addition, Fremantle Biennale will receive $416,138 and the Community Arts Network - Unfinished Business will receive $540,979 both through the Cook Government's Arts Organisation Investment Program.
Perth Festival is Australia's longest-running arts festival which has been celebrating Perth, its people and culture for more than 70 years.
Part performance, part installation and fully immersive, Tales from the Inner City will transform Perth's CBD into a visually arresting dreamscape.
The Fremantle Biennale is a festival of site-responsive contemporary art. The project Night Rise is a new concept, connecting contemporary art experiences, artists and cultural leaders with the dark sky places of Western Australia.
The Australian Government's Creative Futures Fund provided $7.8 million this year through two categories to support 20 ambitious, large-scale creative projects, spanning every state and territory.
A key aim of the fund is to leverage cross-sector partnerships to deliver bold, creative works that will intersect with fields from education, sport, science, agriculture, tourism and fashion through partnerships and collaborations.
As stated by Creative Industries Minister Simone McGurk:
"I am very pleased to see these WA projects have received further support through the Creative Futures Fund that will help them deliver these ambitious works.
"The Cook Government is proud to have also supported the creation of these WA projects, enabling our stories to be told and shared in our communities.
"We are committed to promoting the creative industries sector and its significance in diversifying the WA economy."
