Local Environmental Engineer Is Back To Take On Divided Liberals In Prahran, Offering Strong, Local Alternative

Australian Greens

Environmental engineer and St Kilda East local Angelica Di Camillo will be the Greens candidate for Prahran in next year's election, back to finish the job after coming incredibly close in the February by-election.

Angelica held the Greens' strong primary vote in a unique by-election where Labor didn't stand a candidate and turnout was unusually low among groups that usually favour the Greens, including young people and renters unable to vote absentee.

Since then, dissatisfaction with the major parties has grown in Victoria with people frustrated over Labor's years of inaction on issues like the housing crisis, and the Liberals' messy infighting.

Ms Di Camillo says the people of Prahran are looking for a genuine alternative who can hold the major parties to account and fight for action on the issues that locals care about.

Prahran is one of Victoria's most progressive electorates - young, diverse, and deeply concerned about climate change, rising costs and growing inequality.

Like much of inner Melbourne, Prahran has been hit hard by the housing crisis with vacancy rates at record lows and soaring rent rises. Renters make up over 55% of the electorate and over the past two years alone, the average rent has risen by more than $120 a week in the area.

Communities across Victoria are frustrated with the major parties who have failed to address the problems they're facing. The environmental engineer and St Kilda East local knows and loves her community and is ready to be the strong, local voice that Prahran deserves.

As stated by Environmental Engineer and Victorian Greens candidate for Prahran, Angelica Di Camillo:

"People in Prahran care deeply about climate action, they're feeling the pain of soaring rents and a worsening housing crisis, and they're worried about growing inequality. I'll always stand up for our community - for renters, for climate action and for the values that make Prahran such a special place to live."

As stated by Leader of the Victorian Greens, Ellen Sandell:

"The major parties have failed to address the problems people are facing. After years in power, people are sick of Labor's inaction, but they know the Liberals are a total mess, too busy fighting each other to fight for the communities they're supposed to represent.

"Right now people are looking for an alternative. As the Greens candidate, Angelica is offering Prahran a strong, local voice who will fight for them.

"It's time to send Labor and the Liberals a message and elect strong, local voices just like Angelica who will fight for their communities, renters and for real climate action."
