From the services residents use every day to the people who deliver them, Griffith City Council showcased the many ways it supports and connects with the community during Local Government Week 2026.
Held from 3 to 9 August 2026, Local Government Week provided an opportunity to highlight the diverse range of services delivered by Council and recognise the contributions of Councillors, staff and volunteers who work to support the community.
The week kicked off early, with Council joining Planet Ark's National Tree Planting Day on Sunday 2 August, with locals helping plant trees along Citrus Road.
On Monday, residents had the chance to become tourists in their own town, joining the Tourism Team for a Griffith Day Tour that showcased some of the city's attractions, stories and hidden gems.
A special lunch on Tuesday recognised the valuable contribution of Council volunteers, including those who support facilities such as Pioneer Park Museum and the Tourism Hub, as well as Community Representatives who share their knowledge and expertise through Council Committees. The event also marked Griffith's 110th birthday, celebrating the community's rich history and achievements.
Residents connected with Councillors and staff at a special Council Café held at Griffith Central on Wednesday, with plenty of conversations, feedback and giveaways shared.
The Griffith Regional Aquatic Leisure Centre also joined the celebrations, offering free fitness classes throughout the week.
Across Council's social media channels, the community was invited to celebrate Griffith's 110th birthday through historic photos, while service facts, videos and the launch of the We're Locals Too Campaign introduced dedicated staff behind the services residents rely on every day.
