Local National Day of Mourning Commemoration

Tamworth Region Mayor Russell Webb has announced there will be a National Day of Mourning Commemoration in Tamworth next Thursday to allow local residents to pay their respects to the late Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

The thanksgiving service at the Tamworth War Memorial Town Hall is being hosted by Council on the National Day of Mourning public holiday in conjunction with the Tamworth Ministers Fraternal on behalf of all local churches.

"I know there are many local people who are wanting to pay their respects to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and I am pleased Council is able to work with Pastor James Ardill of Tamworth Ministers Fraternal to give thanks for her lifetime of service," said Councillor Webb. "Her Majesty was not only a steadfast, majestic and elegant monarch for several generations, but she was also a wonderful human being."

Pastor Ardill said the thanksgiving service will include the opportunity for community members to sign the Book of Condolence.

"We are thankful for the life of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and her devoted service to all the people of the Commonwealth and to the wider world," Pastor Ardill said. "She was a lady of unparalleled dignity and humility and there are many members of the community who want to be able to honour her service."

The National Day of Mourning Commemoration will start at 10am with all members of the region community invited to attend.

Anyone who wishes to attend the commemoration should simply be at the town hall in Fitzroy Street, Tamworth before the 10am start.

The service will close with a minute's silence at 11am. Afterwards there will be a light morning tea and an opportunity to sign the Book of Condolence.
