Thank you to everyone who took part in this year's Local Native Plant Giveaway - your enthusiasm has helped return thousands of local native plants across Burnside to gardens, creeks and community spaces. So far, we've raised over $4,900 in donations, all of which will go directly to support the Friends of Cleland National Park in their important conservation work.
Many of you asked if we take cash donations. The answer is no - but there's still time to contribute! Donations remain open until Sunday 30 June, so if you haven't already or would like to give a little extra, now is your chance to support local biodiversity. Please donate online or via our customer service desk at the Civic Centre.
As you care for your new plants, remember:
- Water regularly during their first summer, especially during dry spells.
- Keep a small weed-free buffer around each plant to reduce competition.
- Use light mulch to retain moisture but keep it clear of the stem base.
These aren't just any plants - many are rare or threatened species, and all are grown from local provenance seed collected in the Burnside area. You won't find them at other nurseries, and their genetics are perfectly suited to our soils and climate. They've also been grown with great care and dedication by our amazing volunteers at inhouse nursery, ensuring high quality and strong roots for success in the ground.
The giveaway is now closed. Thank you for supporting biodiversity - one garden at a time!
