Young children who are sick or injured will have a new cuddly friend with the donation of homemade Trauma Teddies by local library members.
The crochet and knitting group of Fairfield City Open Libraries Wetherill Park branch have been hard at work knitting Trauma Teddies the first and third Thursday of each month.
Mayor of Fairfield City Frank Carbone handed over 141 trauma teddies knitted by the Wetherill Park Crochet and Knitting Group to Fairfield Hospital staff. He was joined by Western Sydney Red Cross Volunteer Liz Cater, Fairfield Hospital General Manager Paul Crowe and Jeanette Pittas volunteer and driver of this project at Wetherill Park library.
Red Cross Australia and its volunteers have been comforting children who are experiencing illness or trauma, with the help of a Red Cross Trauma Teddy since 1990.
Fairfield City Mayor said donating these trauma teddies to our City's local hospital is a great way to help those in need, especially kids who live locally.
"There are more than 600 volunteer knitters who knit 50,000 Trauma Teddies a year in Australia," Mayor Carbone said.
"It makes me proud to know that members of our community have contributed to this number of Trauma Teddies and that they are going to provide some comfort to children who are sick or injured at our local hospital.
"Every Trauma Teddy must pass a quality control test to guarantee comfort and safety so you know these 141 teddies have been put together with love and care."
