1. Cyberattack
The cyberattack that struck our university on January 11, 2025, was repelled through quick and vigilant action. This is the story of the cyberattack through the eyes of seventeen involved members of TU/e: from IT specialists to educational support staff, from students to professors, from planners to communication professionals, and from researchers to administrators.
2. Koen Janssen, New President of the Executive Board
Koen Janssen has been the new president of the Executive Board of TU/e since March 1, 2025. In this article , which appeared in January 2025, he looks ahead to his new role. "I'm not here for the prestige of the job; it's about the substance and what I can contribute to the organization. For me, it's always about the people."
3. Startup Aquawomb gives premature babies a better start
The startup AquaWomb, founded in 2025, is developing a liquid-filled incubator for clinical practice. Their dream is to give premature children a better start by allowing them to develop immersed in amniotic fluid until they are ready to breathe air.
4. Launch of Casimir Institute for semicon and high-tech systems
On 30 September 2025, TU/e launched the new research institute for future chips and high-tech systems: Casimir Institute. With this step, TU/e aims to reinforce its ambition to become Europe's leading chip university, while also contributing to the technological sovereignty of the continent
5. TU/e students build modular electric city car you can repair yourself
ARIA is the new, sustainable electric city car created by student team TU/ecomotive. Thanks to its smart design, the vehicle lasts longer and is easier and cheaper to maintain. Users can repair the car themselves and are no longer dependent on the manufacturer for minor fixes. With this concept, the students hope to inspire the automotive industry and challenge European policymakers.
6. Building and breaking plastics with light: Fabian Eisenreich rethinks plastic recycling
What if recycling plastics were as simple as flicking a switch? At TU/e, Assistant Professor Fabian Eisenreich is making that vision a reality by using LED light to both create and break down a new class of high-performance plastics. This innovative material enables truly circular recycling, as this process can be repeated over and over again, without any loss in quality.

8. Inspired by the human brain, Ruud van Sloun is revolutionizing medical ultrasound
With a bold vision and a deep curiosity, electrical engineer Ruud van Sloun and his research team are on a mission to transform medical ultrasound, making it faster, more affordable, and accessible to everyone. Drawing inspiration from the remarkable efficiency of the human brain, they came up with a daring idea that once seemed impossible. But now, that "crazy plan" is starting to become reality.
9. TU/e explores research domain Resilience & Security
Within TU/e, a working group led by Geert-Jan van Houtum, dean of the Department of Industrial Engineering & Innovation Sciences, is exploring how the university can and wants to contribute to the security of our society.
10. Carp Egbert successfully relocated to new home on TU/e campus
In May 2025, Egbert, the TU/e's beloved koi carp, moved to a new home . He relocated from the pond near the Atlas building to the elongated pond near the student towers on campus.
