The Lott by NSW Lotteries is proud to renew its historic partnership with the Sydney Opera House for a third year, kicking off the collaboration by supporting the Opera House's inaugural Giving Day on Wednesday 18 June 2025.
This single day of fundraising will help expand access to the arts for children and families across Australia, continuing a legacy of over 50 years of community support.
This rich connection between the two organisations began in 1957 when more than 86 million tickets were purchased in the very first Opera House Lottery. The $102 million raised funded the majority of the Opera House's construction.
The Lott by NSW Lotteries Partnerships Manager Liz McPherson reflected on this legacy.
"It's still so incredible to think that when Australians bought their tickets into the very first Opera House Lottery in 1957, they were helping to create an incredible international masterpiece and a cultural icon," she said.
"The Sydney Opera House is just one example of the remarkable impact Australian lottery players have made to the nation. Over the decades, Australia's official lotteries have also helped to deliver hospitals, world-class research and assistance when disaster strikes."
That spirit of possibility and public generosity lives on today through Giving Day, where every donation will be matched to double its impact.
Sydney Opera House CEO Louise Herron AM said she is grateful for the ongoing support.
"Giving Day is about helping more children to experience the wonder of the Opera House. Every dollar raised will support free and subsidised programs for children and families - onsite, online and in classrooms right across the country. As we work towards our ambition to be Everyone's House, we're grateful to The Lott for its ongoing support. Together, we can deepen our connection with the community around us and help more Aussie kids dream big."
The Lott by NSW Lotteries is proud to stand with the Opera House in this mission. Together, we can help make the arts more inclusive and accessible to future generations.
