- Lotterywest grant of $1.7 million to support redevelopment of Youth Precinct in Geraldton
- Precinct to include skate park, parkour course, and zipline, co-designed with local young people
- Construction due to start in the week of 27 July
The Cook Labor Government has provided funding through a $1.7 million Lotterywest grant to bring the vision of a new Youth Precinct in Geraldton to life.
The project has been co-designed by the City of Greater Geraldton and local young people aged 12-25 to ensure the Youth Precinct meets the needs of the local community.
The $4.73 million precinct will include a skate park, parkour course, zipline, trampolines, swings, and hang out areas.
The redevelopment will cover approximately 7,353 square metres of public open space on the Geraldton Foreshore on the site of the old Youth Precinct, which has fallen into disrepair.
As well as facilities to encourage physical activity and participation, the space will also feature shade, wind protection, lighting, and CCTV to ensure the precinct is both accessible and safe.
Construction is scheduled to begin the week of Monday, 27 July and is expected to take approximately six months to complete.
As stated by Youth Minister Hannah Beazley:
