Love lockers rise in popularity ahead of Valentine's Day

Australia Post

Romance is alive and well, with Australia Post expecting a soaring number of secret love stashes delivered to Australia Post Parcel Lockers ahead of this Valentine's Day - if last year is anything to go by.

It's not just chocolates and scented candles finding their way into the convenient and discreet Parcel Lockers - it's also gifts sure to make granny blush…like adult toys and lingerie.

Australia Post said, based on last year's Valentine's Day shopping and posting habits, it was expecting an uplift in deliveries to its Parcel Lockers from racy lingerie brand Honey Birdette and online adult store Lovehoney in particular.

In 2022, Parcel Lockers were selected at online checkouts by customers from those two retailers at a significantly higher rate in the two weeks prior to Valentine's Day, compared to the weeks prior. Honey Birdette saw a 150 per cent increase in items sent to Parcel Lockers and Lovehoney a 116 per cent increase.

As a clear indication that Parcel Lockers are prime places to hide Valentine's Day presents, Australia Post saw a 3.9 per cent uplift in usage in the two weeks prior to Cupid's favourite day last year - and this year is looking to be no different.

Last year, 20.2 per cent of customers decided to be clever and use a Parcel Locker for the very first time in the weeks leading up to the Valentine's Day period - keeping their delivery surprise from their loved one until the big day.

Well-prepared shoppers can choose to get their parcels delivered to nearby Parcel Lockers for free, instead of at home or the office, when they make their online purchases and retrieve them 24/7.1 Catriona Noble, Executive General Manager Retail at Australia Post says the delivery service is expecting to see more customers choosing convenience and discretion over discovery.

"As we approach 14 February, we expect Australians' love affair with Parcel Lockers to reach new heights. A spike in activity is expected this week as customers choose to securely stash their gifts away from prying eyes. Aussies know the best way to keep romance alive is with an element of surprise - something our Parcel Lockers can help with."

Customers of Australia Post can register for multiple Parcel Lockers at over 650 convenient locations nationwide, including near select Post Offices, shopping centres, petrol stations and Woolworths stores.
