A man and woman were lucky to escape injury after a car crashed into their home in Rowville overnight.

Emergency services were called to Turramurra Drive following reports a car appeared to have lost control, flipped and crashed about 10.45pm.

A man, asleep in a second story bedroom, was startled awake and lucky not to be injured when large brick debris smashed through the second story brick walls onto the foot of his bed.

A woman, who was downstairs at the time, wasn't injured.

The 55-year-old driver, who has been taken to hospital for treatment, returned a preliminary breath test result of 1.73.

Police believe speed was a factor in the crash.

It is expected the Rowville man will be interviewed at a later date in relation to reckless conduct endangering life and serious injury.
