M1 remains closed after truck crash and fire in Cooranbong

The M1 remains closed in both directions following a truck crash and fire in the Lake Macquarie region this afternoon, NSW Police say.

Emergency services were called to the southbound lanes of the M1, about 1km south of the Freemans Drive interchange, about 12.50pm (Monday 15 January 2018).

Two trucks, including a fuel tanker, collided and one caught fire. A car was also damaged.

One person remains unaccounted for.

Police remain at the scene and crash investigators will examine all the circumstances surrounding the crash.

The truck fire also sparked a bush fire north of the crash scene which NSW Rural Fire Service officers are currently responding to.

Motorists should delay their travel or avoid the area if possible. Diversions are in place but there are expected to be significant delays.
