Macarthur Rail Links Boosted by National Priority Listing

Camden Council has welcomed the inclusion of corridor preservation for Western Sydney Airport rail connections on Infrastructure Australia's Infrastructure Priority List, which identifies the need to preserve land for future rail links between Bradfield and both Leppington and Macarthur.

The Australian Government last year committed $1 billion to secure rail corridors to enable the future extension between the Aerotropolis, Leppington and Macarthur.

Mayor of Camden, Cr Therese Fedeli, said the listing reinforces what Council had been advocating for through The Time Is Now.

"Camden is one of the fastest growing areas in Australia, yet we continue to face significant infrastructure gaps, particularly when it comes to public transport," Cr Fedeli said.

"I'm pleased to see the inclusion of this item on the Infrastructure Priority List because it highlights the urgency of planning now for the rail network our communities will need in the future."

Under The Time Is Now, Camden Council has been calling for a commitment to major transport projects, including rail extensions, road upgrades and improved public transport options to keep pace with growth.

A future rail link between the Bradfield Aerotropolis, Leppington and Macarthur has been a key priority, as it will provide much-needed connectivity between southwest Sydney and the broader metropolitan transport network.

Alongside public transport improvements, Camden Council is advocating for investment in local hospitals, schools and roads to ensure that southwest Sydney remains a great place to live.

Also placed on the Infrastructure Priority List was the connection of the north-south rail, linking St Marys to Tallawong.

Cr Fedeli said improved rail connectivity would help unlock jobs, education and economic opportunities for residents across the Camden area.

"Western Sydney International Airport is a once-in-a-generation investment for our region," she said.

"But its full potential will only be realised if communities like Camden and the broader Macarthur region are properly connected to it through high-quality public transport."

"Recognition from Infrastructure Australia is an important step forward and further evidence that the time is now to deliver the rail infrastructure our growing communities deserve."
