Officers from Mackay Whitsunday Highway Patrol conducted high-visibility and covert traffic enforcement operations recently as part of continuous road safety enforcement and education efforts across the district.
Local officers continue to target deliberate dangerous driving, charging nine people with drink/drug driving, and issuing 42 traffic infringement notices across two evenings.
Around 10.30pm on 20 August, police intercepted a blue and white Suzuki motorcycle allegedly travelling at 121km/h in a 60km/h zone along the Bruce Highway at Glenella.
A 33-year-old Ball Bay man was issued with a traffic infringement notice for exceeding the speed limit by more than 40km/h.
Around 9.20pm on 21 August, police intercepted a grey Honda motorcycle allegedly travelling at 151km/h in a 100km/h zone along the Mackay Ring Road at Erakala.
A 19-year-old Mount Pleasant man was issued with a traffic infringement notice for exceeding the speed limit by more than 40km/h.
Both men were fined $1986 along with a loss of eight demerit points, and a license suspension of six months.
Over just two nights, officers also conducted 299 random breath tests (RBTs) and 16 random drug tests (RDTs).
Mackay Whitsunday Support Services Inspector Shelley Moore said police have zero tolerance for any form of dangerous driving activity.
"We will continue to take a strong stance against deliberate dangerous driving," said Inspector Moore.
"These are brazen behaviours that can and have resulted in serious injuries and even lives being lost."
"We will continue to run targeted operations to identify, disrupt, and take action against this behaviour."
