A Main Beach dad has unwrapped the ultimate birthday surprise, scoring a life-changing $8 million Oz Lotto prize that will be almost impossible to top for years to come.
The Gold Coast man held the only division one winning entry nationally in Oz Lotto draw 1699, drawn Tuesday 8 September 2026, and takes home the entire $8 million division one prize.
The hard-working dad took a little longer to discover his newfound fortune, being busy at work and unable to take the winning phone call until late Wednesday afternoon.
When we finally got a hold of him, the unsuspecting Queenslander had no idea what was coming.
"Oh my god! $8 million! I've won $8 million?!" he exclaimed.
"It's my birthday today! How absolutely amazing. This is mind-boggling!
"I think I need to grab a cold drink. My throat is dry!
"Well, this doesn't happen often! What a birthday present! Someone ringing me, to tell me I've won $8 million on my birthday. That's a really nice gift!
"Every Saturday, I take my wife out to dinner for a date-night, and I'm always saying, 'Oh, they bloody didn't ring us again!'.
"I'm going to wait until I finish work to tell her the great news. I don't want to do it over a phone call.
"I'll have to stop into the bottle-o and buy a bottle of champagne. I'm sure she will say to me, 'Why do you have tears in your eyes? Are you okay?'.
"Thank you! Thank you! You have the best job in the world."
The Gold Coast resident said the multi-million-dollar win would be a huge help to him and his family.
"It's been a tough time for my family and I. I've had some troubles with my health, so this has come at a good time," he revealed.
"This is incredible. I'm just so pleased.
"I can't wait to tell my wife the good news. Thank you!"
His winning marked System entry was purchased on The Lott website - the official home of Australia's lotteries.
