Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade

Today, I am pleased to announce that applications are now open for the 2025-26 Maitri Grant and Matri Scholarships and Fellowships programs.

Since its establishment, the Centre for Australia-India Relations' flagship Maitri (meaning friendship) programs have supported 71 projects.

The Maitri Grant Program champions projects that strengthen the Australia-India relationship in innovative ways, and support the implementation of A New Roadmap for Australia's Economic Engagement with India.

The Maitri Scholarships Program will support high-performing Indian scholars complete higher education studies in STEM-related fields at Australian universities.

The Maitri Fellowships Program will help Australian organisations to support an Australian or Indian academic to undertake research in areas of potential Australia-India cooperation.

The Centre's three Maitri programs foster deeper connections between our two nations and elevate the dynamic relationship across sectors vital for both Australia and India.

India matters to Australia more than ever, with increasing strategic alignment and a shared vision for a peaceful, stable and prosperous Indo-Pacific.

Building our India business literacy, deepening cultural connections, promoting policy dialogue, and engaging Indian diaspora communities through Maitri is important for Australia's future prosperity.
