Major Milestone For Waurn Ponds Sporting Complex

VIC Premier

From basketball and pickleball players to dancers and gymnasts, the Waurn Ponds community has an exciting new sports centre to look forward to, thanks to the Allan Labor Government.

Minister for Community Sport Ros Spence today announced the start of construction at the Waurn Ponds Sporting Complex which is set to become a hub for leisure and recreation activities in the area.

The new complex will feature six high ball multi-sport courts, a regional-level gymnastics facility, community dance hall and studio, and social spaces with kiosks and public lounge areas.

Other facilities include a parents' room, Changing Places facility, sensory room and multi-faith room, ensuring everyone in the community can use the complex. Outside, more than 300 carparking spaces will be available, with electric vehicle charging facilities.

Recognition of Wadawurrung Country is at the heart of the design for this project, with the Traditional Owners Aboriginal Corporation involved throughout the design process ─ informing the colour palette, materials, façade, artwork and landscaping.

ADCO Construction has been appointed to deliver the project, alongside Principal Design Consultants ARM Architecture.

The Waurn Ponds Sporting Complex is one of five projects in the Geelong and Surf Coast region and is one of 16 projects that are part of the Labor Government's Regional Sports Infrastructure Program, making regional communities even better places to live, work, stay and play.

Construction on this exciting new project is expected to be completed in early 2027.
