Major Step Forward For Grafton Base Hospital Redevelopment

NSW Nationals

The $263.8 million redevelopment of Grafton Base Hospital has taken a major step forward, with the Clarence Valley community now invited to review and provide feedback on planning documents that are on public exhibition.

Clarence Nationals MP Richie Williamson said the release of the Review of Environmental Factors (REF) marks an important milestone for the project and provides another opportunity for the community to help shape the future of local health services.

"The redevelopment of Grafton Base Hospital is a once-in-a-generation project, and community feedback has already played a vital role in its planning," Mr Williamson said.

"This is an exciting milestone for the redevelopment, and it's fantastic to see this important health project moving forward. I encourage the community to have their say and provide feedback on the planning documents."

The redevelopment will deliver a new three-storey Acute Services Building, including a modern Emergency Department, Emergency Short Stay Unit, Medical Imaging and MRI, and inpatient unit.

The Day Surgery and Operating Suite will also be expanded to provide two additional operating theatres, increasing overall capacity. The new building will include future space for maternity services and zones for potential further development.

Early works are set to commence in the coming weeks, including minor refurbishments to Building 25 near the main entry to relocate ambulatory care services and maintain access during construction. Main works construction timelines will be confirmed once planning is finalised and a builder is engaged.

"This project will transform the hospital campus, enhancing patient access, staff facilities, and overall care for the Clarence Valley community," Mr Williamson said.

The public exhibition follows consultation sessions held in Grafton in September and October, with input from staff, stakeholders, and the community helping to shape the redevelopment.

Feedback can be submitted online until midnight on Friday, December 19.

Work is also underway to transform 36 units at the former Grafton Gaol site to accommodate health workers, providing important housing to support the local health workforce.

"The $263.8 million redevelopment was a commitment made by the former NSW Nationals Government, and I'm pleased to see the current Government honouring that promise," Mr Williamson said.

"It's a major step forward for our community, and I look forward to seeing this project progress."
