The much-loved Navan Park Dog Park is set for a major upgrade, giving residents and their furry friends more space to exercise, socialise and enjoy the outdoors.

City of Melton Mayor Cr Lara Carli marked the commencement of construction on the upgrades to the dog park with an official sod turn today.

The planned upgrades will significantly expand the space available for dogs and their owners and provide a much larger area for dogs and their owners to enjoy.

Earlier this year, Council undertook community consultation to gather feedback on the proposed upgrades and hear residents' ideas for the future of the dog park.

The dog park will be re-located west of the existing site and will feature additional tree planting, improved landscaping, a sheltered seating area, natural play elements for dogs, expansive grassed areas for running and accessible circuit paths.

Council is investing $342,600 and delivering the upgrades, while the Victorian Government is contributing $300,000 through its New and Upgraded Dog Parks Program and Melbourne Water is providing $200,000 towards the project.

The upgraded dog park is expected to open to the public in early 2027.

Quotes attributable to City of Melton Mayor Cr Lara Carli:

"Navan Park Dog Park is more than just a place for pets to exercise. It's a valued community space where people meet, connect and enjoy the outdoors. These upgrades will ensure even more residents can benefit from this important local destination."

"I'd like to thank the Victorian Government and Melbourne Water for their investment in this project. By working together, we're creating a bigger and better dog park that will give local families and their pets more opportunities to get active, socialise and enjoy quality time outdoors."
