Major Upgrades Begin at Three South Coast Schools

NSW Gov

Major works are now underway to deliver more than $80 million in upgrades across three South Coast schools as part of the Minns Labor Government's work to rebuild public education and ensure every child has access to a world-class local public education.

These significant infrastructure upgrades for Ulladulla Public School, Ulladulla High School and Milton Public School will deliver 28 permanent classrooms, nine specialised support learning classrooms and new student amenities, making way for the removal of more than 30 demountables across the three schools.

The commencement of major works marks a significant step in the delivery of a key Labor election commitment for families on the South Coast, with the school upgrades on track for completion by Day 1, Term 1, 2027. The new permanent classrooms will accommodate an increase of more than 600 students across the three schools, future-proofing them for the growing local population.

The upgrades are being delivered as part of record education funding in the 2025-26 Budget, including $2.1 billion for new and upgraded schools in regional NSW.

On top of the upgrades to these schools in Milton and Ulladulla, the Minns Labor Government's investment across South Coast schools also includes:

  • Vincentia High School - upgrade
  • Nowra East Public School - upgrade
  • Worrigee - new public school and public preschool
  • Sanctuary Point Public School - new public preschool
  • Greenwell Point Public School - new public preschool
  • Former Shoalhaven Anglican School site - redevelopment for public education use
  • Bomaderry High School - upgrade
  • Moruya High School - High Potential and Gifted Education (HPGE) upgrade and new support unit building
  • Batemans Bay High School - High Potential and Gifted Education upgrade

Acting Minister for Education and Early Learning Courtney Houssos said:

"South Coast communities deserve world-class public school facilities for their children. We want every child in every public school across the state to know their education is our priority.

"The Minns Labor Government promised to rebuild public education across NSW, and a major part of that work is building new and upgraded schools where they are needed, in communities that were ignored for too long by the Liberals and Nationals.

"It's not good enough to for students to be left in ageing demountables as a long-term solution to growth - that is why we are replacing them with high-quality permanent classrooms that will ensure students in South Coast public schools get the world-class public education they deserve.

"These major upgrades are key commitments that Liza Butler and Deputy Premier Prue Car made to the Milton and Ulladulla community and now we are delivering them."

Minister for the Illawarra and the South Coast Ryan Park said:

"We are getting on with the job and building more permanent classrooms for our students on the South Coast so they can receive a world-class public education.

"These important upgrades to public schools in Milton and Ulladulla will benefit students, staff and the local community, giving them the permanent facilities they need to thrive.

"A modern school environment will inspire creativity and innovation and empower students to reach their full potential."

Member for South Coast Liza Butler said:

"I'm incredibly proud to be part of the Minns Labor Government that has put public education back where it belongs: front and centre.

"Today's sod-turnings at Ulladulla Public School, Ulladulla High School and Milton Public School signal far more than construction beginning; they mark a renewed commitment to our children's future.

"These landmark upgrades form part of the biggest public education investment ever seen on the South Coast, ensuring our students have the modern, inspiring facilities they need to learn, grow and thrive for decades to come. I'm proud to turn the first sod marking the commencement of construction on these three major upgrades at our schools in the South Coast

"These significant upgrades will enrich the lives of every student at Ulladulla Public School, Ulladulla High School and Milton Public school for years to come."
