Making change to red-lidded bins

Every council in Victoria is required to have the same coloured bin system by 2030 in line with State Government requirements. This includes general waste bins having a red lid.

Bayside is making the change to red-lidded bins over an eight-week period, starting in September.

This is how it will work:

  • A new red-lidded bin will be delivered to your nature strip the day before your general waste bin usually gets collected. Don't forget general waste bins are now collected fortnightly.
  • Take the new red-lidded bin in and start using it for your general waste.
  • Put your old dark green bin out for collection on your scheduled collection day (with rubbish in it).
  • This bin will be emptied as normal but taken away on the same day.

Don't worry - your new red-lidded bin will be the same size as your current bin and the bins being taken away will be recycled into new bins
