Sanitary sewer system upgrades will provide more reliable and climate-resilient wastewater service to Nain after a joint investment from the Governments of Canada, Newfoundland and Labrador and the Nain Inuit Community Government.
MP Philip Earle, Minister Lela Evans, and AngajukKâk Anthony Andersen announced a joint investment of over $3.9 million to support upgrades to the sanitary sewer system in Nain. This project includes the replacement of damaged sanitary sewer mains and manholes, as well as installing inflow protectors and conducting surface grading.
This project will reduce the risk of sewer backup, protect the environment and adjacent marine ecosystems, and provide reliable wastewater service to existing residents. The increased capacity of the wastewater system will also lay the necessary groundwork for future population growth and housing construction.
These types of important infrastructure projects support the Government of Canada's goal to address the housing crisis, and complement the work of Build Canada Homes, a new federal agency that will build affordable homes, support builders with financing, and encourage better building methods.
Together, we will make housing more affordable by unleashing the power of public-private cooperation, catalysing a modern housing industry, and creating new careers in the skilled trades.
