Man and dog found safe after night in Nightcap National Park

Police have led the successful operation to locate a man missing on the Far North Coast.

A 61-year-old man took his kelpie for a walk at Nightcap National Park at about 4:15pm (Saturday 11 May 2019).

When he failed to return before nightfall, his family began to search for him. They discovered his car at the intersection of Nightcap Range Road and Rummery Road, near Minyon Falls.

Following an unsuccessful search of the surrounding areas, police were contacted.

Police Rescue - along with Lismore State Emergency Services (SES) personnel, Mullumbimby Volunteer Rescue Association and a Westpac Rescue Helicopter, undertook an extensive search of the area until 4am this morning (Sunday 12 May 2019).

Officers attached to Richmond Police District were posted near the missing man's vehicle with the search due to resume at 8am (Sunday 12 May 2019).

About 7:10am (Sunday 12 May 2019), the man and his dog returned to his vehicle uninjured.

He informed police that he had become disorientated in the dark and sheltered in a place with his dog until first light.

The man from Upper Coopers Creek did not require any medical assistance.
