Man arrested after police dog assaulted in North Coast

A man has been arrested after allegedly assaulting a police dog on the state’s North Coast yesterday, NSW Police say.

Just after 11am today, police will allege the 27-year-old man was driving a car with no registration plates on Kyogle Road, Byangum.

He was ordered to pull over but the man allegedly fled the vehicle on foot through bushes and scrub towards the Tweed River.

With the assistance of Queensland PolAir and a NSW Police dog, a perimeter was set up near Old Lismore Road to locate the man.

He allegedly assaulted the police dog. The dog is showing no signs of injury at this stage.
