Man arrested following multiple crashes and vehicle thefts in Kogarah

A man has been arrested following multiple crashes and vehicle thefts in Sydney’s south this morning, NSW Police say.

About 7.30am (Friday 16 November 2018), a Kia Cerato was travelling south on the Princes Highway, Rockdale, when at the intersection of Bryant Street, it collided with a Mercedes and a Nissan Navara. Several people stopped to assist.

The male driver and sole occupant of the Kia got in the Nissan Navara and drove off as police were notified.

Police have been told, the Nissan collided with a Toyota Corolla at the intersection of Jubilee Avenue, Kogarah.

The driver got out of the Nissan, before it rolled onto the incorrect side of the road and hit a Nissan Pulsar.

The man got in a Volkswagen Golf, when the driver stopped and got out to assist, before driving off.

At the intersection of Park Road, Carlton, the Volkswagen collided with a Mitsubishi Outlander before mounting the kerb and hitting a traffic pole. The injured driver fled and attempted to hide.

Officers from St George Police Area Command attended and located a 35-year-old man.

He was arrested and taken to St George Hospital where he remains in a stable condition, under police guard.

The Mercedes driver was treated for minor injuries and taken to St George Hospital. The other drivers were uninjured.

As inquiries continue, any witnesses or anyone with dash-cam footage is urged to come forward and contact police.
