Man assaulted and vehicle stolen at Moruya

An investigation is underway after a man was assaulted and his vehicle was stolen in the state's south today.

Just after 2.20pm (Tuesday 20 July 2021), emergency services were called to a carpark on Vulcan Street, Moruya, after reports of an assault.

Police have been told an 83-year-old man was in the carpark when he was approached by an unknown male who knocked him to the ground and stole his car keys, before fleeing the scene in the man's vehicle.

The vehicle is a 2001 Holden Commodore, bronze in colour and has NSW registration ATZ 12F.

The man was treated at the scene for knee and arm injuries, before being taken to Moruya Hospital in a stable condition.

Officers from South Coast Police District commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The male is described as being of Caucasian appearance, about 175cm tall and of solid build.
