Man being sentenced on 249 charges against children

As a result of an extensive investigation by Detectives from the Child Exploitation Operations Squad (CEO), a 56-year-old man will be sentenced in the Perth Magistrates Court today, in relation to 249 charges relating to child sexual offences that are alleged to have occurred between 2020 and 2023.

During the investigation, CEO Officers seized over 200 electronic items, all requiring digital forensic inspection. Officers manually reviewed in excess of three million images and videos. This manual review of images involved all officers at CEO, continuously reviewing files for a total of 700 hours over a four-month period.

The man was initially charged on 18 April 2023, and will be sentenced for the offences of: -

• 54 x Possess Child Exploitation Material

• 55 x Indecent Dealing of a Child under 13 years

• 46 x Sexual Penetration of a Child under 13 years

• 42 x Possess or Copy an Indecent or Obscene Article (Bestiality)

• 28 x Indecently Record a Child under 13 years

• 10 x Sexual Penetration of a Child who was a Lineal Relative

• 3 x Indecent Dealing with a Child who is a Lineal Relative

• 3 x Indecent Dealing with a Child (13-16)

• 3 x Produce Child Exploitation Material

• 2 x Indecent Recording of a Child who is a Lineal Relative

• 2 x Indecent Recording of a Child (13-16)

• 1 x Sexual Penetration of a Child (13-16)
