Man bitten by shark in Gerroa

A man has been airlifted to hospital after being bitten by a shark at Gerroa today, NSW Police say.

About 1pm today (Saturday 17 November 2018), officers attached to Lake Illawarra Police District were called to Seven Mile Beach at Gerroa after reports of a shark attack.

A 24-year-old Sydney man was treated at the scene before being airlifted to St George Hospital to be treated for infection control to puncture injuries to his hand and calf.

Police have been told the man was participating in a surf lesson at the time.

The beach is currently closed while police liaise with Surf Life Saving and the Department of Primary Industries.
