A man has been charged after allegedly assaulting two police officers on the state's South Coast yesterday.
About 7.30pm on Friday 9 January 2026, police were called to Bawley Beach, Bawley Point, about 26km south of Ulladulla, following reports of a concern for welfare.
On arrival, officers attached to South Coast Police District attempted to speak to a 21-year-old man who was not wearing any clothes.
Police will allege as officers attempted to speak with the man, he became uncooperative and assaulted a male senior constable.
Police arrested the man before he allegedly punched a female constable in the head.
The man allegedly continued to resist, and OC spray was used to effect his arrest.
Police will allege the man kicked the same male senior constable in the face causing serious facial injuries.
He was taken to Shoalhaven Hospital for further assessment under police guard.
The male officer was taken to the same hospital in a stable condition.
About 5.10am today (Saturday 10 January 2026), the man was released from the hospital and taken to Nowra Police Station.
He was charged with cause grievous bodily harm to police officer on duty reckless as to actual bodily harm, assault police office in execution of duty without actual bodily harm (two counts) and hinder or resist police office in the execution of duty.
He was refused bail and appeared before Bail Division Court 3 today (Saturday 10 January 2026), where he was granted conditional bail to appear at Nowra Local Court on Friday 23 January 2026.
