Man charged after drugs and firearm located in hidden compartments in car, NSW

A man will face court today on drug and firearms offences after police seized a loaded handgun, ammunition, cocaine, and cannabis in hidden compartments of a vehicle last year, NSW Police say.

About 11.40am on Wednesday 23 August 2017, officers from the Criminal Groups Squad stopped a Toyota Prado on Prospect Street, Rosehill, and spoke with the two male occupants.

During a search of the vehicle, police located a Browning .32 calibre self-loading semi-automatic handgun, ammunition, and 30g cocaine hidden in an after-market compartment, and 3.2kg of cannabis hidden under a false floor.

Following extensive inquiries by the Drug and Firearms Squad, including forensic examinations of the items, a 31-year-old man was arrested on Barangaroo Avenue, Barangaroo, just before 10am yesterday (Thursday 30 August 2018).

The man was taken to Day Street Police Station and charged with possess unauthorised prohibited firearm, acquire pistol-subject to firearms prohibition order, supply prohibited drug, supply cannabis, and possess cannabis.

He was refused bail to appear at Central Local Court later today (Friday 31 August 2018).

Inquiries are continuing.
