Man Charged After Escape Attempt in Bathurst

A man will face court following an incident in Bathurst today where a Taser was deployed against police.

About 4.30pm yesterday (Friday 19 September 2025), officers attached to Chifley Police District arrested a 39-year-old man at an address in Bathurst on two warrants for alleged property related matters.

The man was taken to Bathurst Hospital for overnight observation following minor injuries sustained during the arrest.

Around 7.40am this morning (Saturday 20 September 2025), the man allegedly attempted to escape police custody, and officers subsequently deployed a Taser during the arrest.

However, police will allege the man became in possession of the Taser, and used it towards an officer, who sustained minor injuries.

The officer was assessed by hospital staff as a precaution.

Following inquiries, the man was taken to Bathurst Police Station where he was charged with:

  • Escape lawful custody
  • 2x malicious damage
  • 2x resist officer in execution of duty
  • 2x use offensive weapon to prevent lawful detention; and,
  • Assault occasioning actual bodily harm police officer.

The man has been refused bail to appear in Parramatta Local Court on Saturday 20 September 2025.
