Man charged after police threatened with knife in Doonside

A man has been charged after allegedly threatening police with a knife at Doonside last week, NSW Police say.

Just after 8.20am on Saturday 1 September 2018, police received reports a man threatened a woman with a knife on the corner of Hartnett and Tarrant Places.

Officers from Blacktown Police Area Command attended and were unable to locate the man.

About 10.10am, officers attended Melkarth Place at Doonside, after reports a man was causing a disturbance.

Officers located a man on the street, armed with a knife. He approached the police vehicle, and followed them as they drove to the end of the cul-de-sac.

When police tried to speak with the man, he became aggressive and allegedly came at them, still armed with the knife.

One officer discharged a firearm which missed the 37-year-old man, and the other officer deployed a Taser before he was arrested.

NSW Ambulance paramedics treated the man for a self-inflicted knife wound to his hand before he was taken to Cumberland Hospital for assessment.

Following treatment, he was taken to Parramatta Police Station today (Tuesday 11 September 2018) and charged with use offensive weapon with intent to commit indictable offence, and two counts of assault police officer in execution of duty.

He was refused bail to appear at Parramatta Local Court tomorrow (Wednesday 12 September 2018).
