Man Charged After Stolen SUV Chase

A man will face court today charged following an alleged pursuit in a stolen SUV yesterday afternoon.

Shortly after midday yesterday (Wednesday 9 September 2026), officers attached to the Northern Region Operations Support Group (OSG) attempted to stop a stolen SUV on the Pacific Highway at Lake Haven.

When the driver allegedly failed to stop as directed, a pursuit was initiated.

The pursuit continued through several suburbs before it was terminated.

A short time later, the SUV collided with a hatchback at the intersection of the Pacific Highway and Tall Timbers Road, Lake Munmorah.

The driver of the hatchback was not injured.

The driver of the SUV allegedly ran from the scene and was located under a parked vehicle at a nearby shopping centre where he was arrested.

During a search of the man and the SUV, officers located and seized two MDMA tablets, 3.4g methamphetamine, and a knife.

Police will allege that the SUV had been stolen from a licensed premises at Jesmond on Friday 7 August 2026, and had been used in a fail-to-pay incident at a service station in Doyalson yesterday morning (Wednesday 9 September 2026).

The 32-year-old man was taken to Wyong Police Station and charged with nine offences,

  • Police pursuit - not stop - drive dangerously
  • Take and drive conveyance without consent of owner
  • Drive motor vehicle during disqualification period
  • Possess prohibited drug (two counts)
  • Dishonestly obtain property by deception
  • Custody of knife in public place
  • Hinder or resist police officer in the execution of duty, and
  • Assault police officer in execution of duty cause actual bodily harm.

He was refused bail to appear before Bail Division Court 6 today (Thursday 10 September 2026).
