Tasmania Police have charged a 19 year old man after he was allegedly caught drink driving twice within a three hour period in Sandy Bay early this morning.
Around 1:45am this morning, officers intercepted a vehicle in Sandy Bay. The driver allegedly returned a breath alcohol reading of 0.122.
He was charged with drink driving and his licence was disqualified for 12 months.
Around 4:00am, police again intercepted the same man in Sandy Bay. On this occasion, he allegedly returned a breath alcohol reading of 0.095.
He was subsequently charged with a second count of drink driving, as well as driving while disqualified and breaching bail. He was detained to appear before the Hobart Magistrates Court later today.
Acting Sergeant Tom Andrews of Hobart Uniform said police were extremely concerned by the repeat behaviour in a single night.
"This is a clear example of someone making repeated and dangerous choices."
"To be caught drink driving twice in three hours, and while already disqualified, shows a complete disregard for the safety of others."
"Our message is simple: if you drink or use drugs, don't drive," he said.
Tasmania Police will continue to target these behaviours to keep the community safe.
