A man will appear in court today charged by Robbery and Serious Crime Squad detectives as part of ongoing investigations into a kidnap for ransom in Sydney's north west earlier this year.
About 10.30pm on Sunday 9 February 2020, police were called to a home on Brothers Road, Dundas Valley, following reports of a home invasion.
Investigations revealed a man, purporting to be delivering a pizza, attended the home, before three further men also entered and assaulted a 58-year-old man.
During the assault, the man was knocked unconscious before being carried outside the home and put into a vehicle, which fled the location.
Two days later (Tuesday 11 February 2020), police were notified after the 58-year-old man presented at Liverpool Hospital with several injuries, including face and leg fractures.
Detectives from the State Crime Command's Robbery and Serious Crime Squad commenced inquiries into the incidents under Strike Force Kaeppel.
Investigators have been told a sum of money was paid for the man's safe release.
Following a public appeal for information and extensive investigations, strike force detectives, with assistance from the Operation Support Group (OSG), executed a search warrant at a home at Cranebrook from 9am today (Monday 4 May 2020).
During the search, officers seized mobile phones and other items relevant to the investigation.
A 26-year-old man was arrested and taken to Penrith Police Station where he was charged with take/detain in company with intent to ransom occasion actual bodily harm and aggravated break and enter commit serious indictable offence-use violence.
Police will allege in court that the man, who purported to be delivering a pizza, was involved in the kidnap for ransom of a 58-year-old man at Dundas Valley in February this year.
He was refused bail to appear at Penrith Local Court today.
Investigations under Strike Force Kaeppel are continuing.
