Man charged following assault with baseball bat in Kingsgrove

A man will appear in court tomorrow after allegedly assaulting another man with a baseball bat in Kingsgrove last night, NSW Police say.

About 8.30pm yesterday, a 24-year-old man and a 22-year-old woman were getting out of a parked vehicle on Thorpe Road when they were approached by two men, one armed with a baseball bat.

Police will allege the armed man assaulted the 24-year-old man a number of times using the bat, before he left the scene with the second man.

The woman, who suffered minor injuries, drove the injured man to St George Hospital where he underwent surgery for injuries, including a fractured cheekbone.

Officers from St George Local Area Command were called and commenced investigations.

Following inquiries, about 8.30am this morning today, a 24-year-old man was arrested at a home in Erina.

The man was taken to Gosford Police Station where he was charged with cause grievous bodily harm to person with intent. He was refused bail and will appear before Wyong Bail Court tomorrow.

Inquiries continue. The incident is believed to be targeted.
