Man Charged Following Police Pursuit in Sydney's South West

A man has been charged following a pursuit through multiple suburbs across Sydney's South West.

About 9.50am yesterday (Thursday 17 August 2023), officers attached to Georges River Highway Patrol attempted to stop a vehicle on Gibson Avenue, Padstow for a random breath test.

When the vehicle accelerated away from the officers, a pursuit was initiated before it was terminated a short time later due to the manner of driving.

Police continued to monitor the vehicle's movements for 45 minutes as it travelled through a number of suburbs, including Greenacre, Milperra and Bankstown, before road spikes were deployed successfully on Erskine Park Road, Erskine Park, and the vehicle came to a stop.

A male was arrested at the scene and taken to Mount Druitt Police Station where he was charged with police pursuit – not stop – drive dangerously, drive motor vehicle during disqualification period, possess prohibited drug, and custody of knife in a public place.

He was refused bail to appear before Mount Druitt Local Court today (Friday 18 August 2023).
