Man Charged for Assault, $10K Theft in Coffs Harbour

A man will face court today after allegedly stealing thousands of dollars from an elderly man in Coffs Harbour yesterday.

About 1.15pm (Wednesday 3 June 2026), emergency services were called to Park Beach Plaza, Coffs Harbour, following reports of an assault.

Officers attached to Coffs/Clarence Police District attended and were told an unknown man and woman had allegedly assaulted an 83-year-old man before stealing $10,000 cash from him and leaving the scene.

The 83-year-old sustained minor injuries and was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics at the scene.

Following inquiries, about 6.45pm the same day, a 31-year-old man was arrested at a hotel on Elizabeth Street, Coffs Harbour.

He was taken to Coffs Harbour Police Station and charged with aggravated robbery and inflict actual bodily harm.

Police will allege the man stole the $10,000 cash from the 83-year-old after witnessing him withdraw the money at a nearby bank.

The 31-year-old was refused bail to appear before Bail Court Division 1 today (Thursday 4 June 2026).
