Man Charged for Online Child Abuse Material

Sex Crimes Squad detectives have charged a man for allegedly sharing child abuse material online under Strike Force Trawler.

Strike Force Trawler is an ongoing investigation by Sex Crimes Squad's Child Exploitation Internet Unit (CEIU) into the sexual abuse and exploitation of children facilitated through the internet and related telecommunications devices.

Following a referral from the Northern Territory Police, strike force detectives commenced an investigation into a man from Sydney's south-west.

Following extensive inquiries, about 4.15pm yesterday (Monday 11 March 2023), officers executed a search warrant at a home in Padstow Heights where they arrested a 40-year-old man.

During a search of the home police seized mobile phones, a laptop and USB.

The man was taken to Bankstown Police Station where he was charged with use carriage service transmit/publish/promote child abuse.

He was refused bail to appear in Bankstown Local Court today (Tuesday 12 March 2024).

Police will allege in court the man had used a social media application to share an explicit video of a young girl who was known to him.

Inquiries under Strike Force Trawler continue.
