Man Charged for Theft & Traffic Offences in Murrumbidgee

A man will appear in court today charged with a number of alleged stealing and traffic related offences in the Murrumbidgee region.

Earlier this month, officers attached to Murrumbidgee Police District's Proactive Crime Team commenced an investigation into reports of numerous alleged stolen vehicles and pursuits across the region.

Following extensive inquiries, about 10.30am yesterday (Tuesday 14 February 2023), officers arrested a 28-year-old man in remote bushland in Murrumbidgee Valley National Park.

The man was taken to Leeton Police Station where he was charged with 58 offences including;

  • Steal motor vehicle (two counts),
  • Take and drive conveyance without consent of owner (nine counts),
  • Larceny (two counts),
  • Police pursuit – not stop – drive at speed (five counts),
  • Drive recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous (five counts),
  • Class A m/v exceed speed > 45 km/h – estimated (five counts)
  • Dishonestly obtain property by deception, and,
  • Shoplifting.

Police will allege in court the man stole a Toyota Hilux and a caravan from Leeton yesterday (Tuesday 14 February 2023), as well as allegedly leading police on pursuits through Leeton last Thursday (9 February 2023), Friday (10 February 2023) and Sunday (12 February 2023).

He was refused bail to appear in Griffith Local Court today (Wednesday 15 February 2023).
