Man Charged in Coonamble Car Theft, Pursuit

A man is due to face court over an alleged vehicle theft and pursuit in the state's west yesterday.

In September 2025, officers attached to Rural Crime Prevention Team (RCPT) and Orana Mid-Western Police District commenced an investigation into two theft incidents at rural properties in Baradine area under Strike Force Royton.

  • About 5.30pm on Tuesday 16 September 2025, police were called to a rural property on Baradine Road, Baradine, following reports of a white utility and a blue quad bike were stolen. Police were told an unknown people forced entry into the property about 3.30am on the same day before the car and the motorcycle was stolen.
  • Between 1pm on Friday 19 September 2025 and 12pm on Saturday 20 September 2025, a firearm was allegedly stolen from a rural property on Cumbil Road, Baradine.

Inquiries have led police to allege the two incidents are linked.

Police have established crime scenes and commenced an investigation into the incident.

About 3pm on Friday 19 September 2025, officers attached to Orana Mid-Western Police District were called to Baradine Road, Coonamble, following multiple calls of a white utility being driven in a dangerous manner.

A short time later, police located the utility at the intersection of Baradine Road near Killara Lane, Coonamble.

Checks revealed the vehicle was the stole utility from the property in Baradine.

When it failed to stop as directed, a pursuit was initiated.

The pursuit continued through Dingo Hole Road, near Pilliga National Park, where it was terminated due to a safety concern.

Following further inquiries, about 11.30am yesterday (Thursday 25 September 2025), police arrested a 28-year-old man on Charles Street, Coonamble.

He was taken to Coonamble Police Station where he was charged with enter building/land with intent to commit indictable offence, steal motor vehicle (two counts), receive property-theft= serious indictable offence more than $5000, police pursuit – not stop – drive recklessly, and unlicensed for Class, Class C, R, LR or MR.

He was refused bail to appear at Bail Division Court 4 today (Friday 26 September 2025).
