A man will face court today charged after allegedly attempting to steal an ATM in the state's north yesterday.
About 12.30am (Tuesday 13 January 2026), police were called to a business on Giinagay Way, Nambucca Heads, following reports a vehicle had crashed into a building.
On arrival, officers attached to Mid North Coast Police District found a silver Proton sedan had crashed into the front door of a business, before allegedly attempting to steal a nearby ATM.
There were no reports of injuries.
Police established a crime scene and commenced an investigation into the incident.
Following extensive inquiries, about 6.30pm yesterday (Tuesday 13 January 2026), police arrested a 39-year-old man at an address on Giiguy Close, Macksville.
Police will allege the man was unsuccessful in removing the ATM; however, did allegedly take a number of items from inside the premises, which were located and seized during a subsequent search of the vehicle.
He was taken to Macksville Police Station where he was charged with:
- Break & Enter house etc steal value less than or equal to $60,000
- Destroy or damage property less than or equal to $2000
- Possess prohibited drug
- Drive while licence cancelled
- Use unregistered registrable Class A motor vehicle on road
- Use uninsured motor vehicle on road
- Use unsafe or unserviceable vehicle on road etc, and
- Unlawfully possess number plates.
He was refused bail to appear at Bail Division Court 1 today (Wednesday 14 January 2026).
