A man has been charged following damage to election hoardings in the south Auckland area.
Police have received multiple reports of election hoardings being vandalised in Takanini since early September.
Inspector Matt Hoyes, Counties Manukau South Area Prevention Manager, says members of the public had allegedly observed a person defacing and removing signs.
"Yesterday, Police sighted a suspect actively vandalising a hoarding on Great South Road.
"A 34-year-old male was arrested and charged with seven counts of theft under $2000."
He will appear in Papakura District Court today
"These charges serve as a reminder that deliberate damage to hoardings will be met with consequences.
"We thank those who notified us of this offending as it occurred and encourage anyone who witnesses suspicious activity to report it to Police," Inspector Hoyes says.
