Man charged over Glenorchy evade incident, TAS

A 23 year old Glenorchy man was charged last night following the incident reported on Tuesday involving a silver Mazda 323 hatch that evaded police in Box Hill Road, Claremont, Tasmania Police say.

Following information received and a coordinated response from several police units yesterday afternoon, the man was arrested in Moonah without incident.  He was in company with a 24 year old Lutana woman at the time.

The man had been a person of interest wanted by detectives in relation to a burglary involving the theft of firearms and other crimes committed in the Bellerive/Howrah area recently. Detectives from Bellerive CIB last night charged the man with Aggravated Burglary, Stealing, Evading Police (Aggravated Circumstances), Motor Vehicle Stealing, Driving while Unlicensed, along with breaching bail and firearms-related offences.  He was detained overnight for an appearance in the Hobart Magistrates Court this morning.

Further inquiries are being undertaken in respect to the involvement of the 24 year old Lutana woman.
