Man charged over serious assault in Sydney

A man has been charged after another man was knocked out during an alleged assault in Sydney’s CBD on the weekend.

About 4.10pm on Saturday (27 October 2018), police were called to St James Railway Station following reports a man had been assaulted during a fight.

Officers were told the 23-year-old man had allegedly been struck by another man.

As a result, he fell to the ground and lost consciousness.

The man was treated at the scene by paramedics before being taken to St Vincent’s Hospital in a serious condition, NSW Police say.

He has since come out of a coma and has undergone facial reconstruction surgery for serious facial injuries.

Officers from Sydney City Police Area Command launched an investigation into the incident.

About 12.30pm yesterday (Monday 29 October 2018), a 21-year-old man was arrested at Campbelltown Police Station.

He was charged with reckless grievous bodily harm and granted conditional bail to appear at Campbelltown Local Court on Monday 19 November 2018.
