Sex Crime Squad detectives have charged a man with the alleged sexual assault of an elderly woman at an aged care facility on the Central Coast.
Police were told about 12.40am on Wednesday 15 November 23, an unknown man broke into a facility in Bateau Bay where he allegedly assaulted and sexually assaulted a 90-year-old woman.
The woman was taken to hospital where she was treated for serious injuries.
A crime scene was established by Tuggerah Lakes Police District before the investigation was taken carriage of by State Crime Command's Sex Crimes Squad under Strike Force Easterbrook.
About 9.20pm on Friday 17 November 2023, strike force detectives – with assistance from Raptor Squad – executed a search warrant at an address in The Entrance.
During the search, police located electronics, sim cards and clothing relevant to their investigation. The items were seized to undergo further forensic examination.
Following further inquiries, about 7.30pm yesterday (Monday 21 November 2023) strike force detectives – with assistance from Tuggerah Lakes Police District, Lake Macquarie Police District, Regional Enforcement Squad, and Police Transport Command – attended a home in Caves Beach where a 34-year-old man was arrested after attempting to flee from police.
He was taken to hospital for minor injuries to his arm.
On his release from hospital, the man was taken to Belmont Police Station where he was charged with aggravated break & enter & commit serious indictable offence-use violence, inflict actual bodily harm with intent to have sexual intercourse with victim, aggravated sexual assault – break and enter with intent, and aggravated sexual assault – inflict actual bodily harm on victim.
The man was refused bail to appear before Belmont Local Court today (Tuesday 21 November 2023).
