Man charged over social media campaign

A man is due to appear in Parramatta Court today charged with offences relating to an alleged targeted social media hate campaign.

Detectives attached to Bankstown Police Area Command initiated inquiries after being alerted to social media posts allegedly targeting a woman.

Following inquiries, detectives executed a search warrant about 9.15pm yesterday (Saturday 8 April 2023), at a home in Marks Street, Chester Hill.

Police seized documentation, electronics and clothing. All items have been taken for further examination.

About 12.40am today (Sunday 9 April 2023), a 43-year-old man was arrested at Bass Hill Police Station.

He has now been charged with seven offences; three counts of use carriage service to menace/harass/offend, three counts of publish or broadcast person's name prohibited by section, and one count of install/use etc device record conversation party to.

Police will allege in court the charges relate to an incident in 2012 involving a girl, then aged 17.

The man, from Chester Hill, was refused bail overnight to appear in Parramatta Bail Court today.
