Man charged, rare $400K Mustang recovered

Detectives from the Vehicle Crime Squad have charged a man overnight following the theft of a rare and distinctive Ford Mustang from Ferntree Gully last month.

Following an appeal for information on Friday, 27 October, investigators received information regarding a possible location of the vehicle.

A search warrant was executed at a residential address in Carrum Downs on Wednesday, 1 November, and the 2021 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500KR was recovered.

The car had been wrapped in black paint and the spoiler had been removed.

A 37-year-old Narre Warren man was arrested yesterday afternoon and charged with theft of motor vehicle, drive whilst disqualified and possess drug of dependence.

He was remanded to appear at Ringwood Magistrates' Court today.

A 32-year-old Carrum Downs man was interviewed and released without charge.

The charges follow an incident at 3.45pm on Wednesday, 11 October, where the Mustang was allegedly stolen from Mustang Motorsport on Hayward Road in Ferntree Gully.
